The Rebirth of Nalanda Library
For centuries, the ancient Dharmaganja at Nalanda was humanity's greatest beacon of universal wisdom. Today, at the 455-acre Net-Zero campus in Rajgir, a monumental six-storeyed stupa-shaped Central Library has arisen. We are building in public with every seeker, thinker, and citizen on Earth who reveres this civilizational heritage.
The New Nalanda University Library
Master-planned by Vastu Shilpa Consultants (Sangath) under Pritzker laureate B.V. Doshi and architect Rajeev Kathpalia, the Central Library stands as the architectural and spiritual fulcrum of the campus.
17,545 m² Stupa Centerpiece
With an 81-meter outer base radius and 26-meter crowning height, this six-storeyed stupa building houses contemplative study halls, video podcasting studios, art galleries, rare archival vaults, and student-faculty lounges.
KOHA Automation & Archives
Operating on KOHA open-source ILS and connected through DELNET, the library integrates the South Asia Archive, Knimbus digital portal, and rare manuscript preservation to revive the legacy of ancient Dharmaganja.
Net-Zero Thermal Mass
Surrounded by 100 acres of water retention lakes (Kamal Kunds) and powered by a 6.5 MW solar plant, the library employs passive geothermal air flow and thick earthen cavity walls for optimal eco-efficiency.
